About & method

Small infrastructure.
Clearer decisions.

StackOutlay is an early-stage independent publication for people running small web projects, client sites and homelabs.

What you can expect

We build focused calculators and explain the choices around them. The aim is to make the assumptions easy to change and the formulas easy to inspect. You do not need an account to use these tools.

How we distinguish evidence

  • Calculated: results produced by the displayed formulas from your inputs.
  • Documented: product details supported by linked primary documentation, checked on the date shown.
  • Illustrative: example rates, maintenance hours and efficiency assumptions that you should replace.

The current guides are based on documentation and transparent models. They do not claim hands-on benchmarks, product testing or measured reliability. Provider examples are starting points for investigation; there is no paid ranking in the calculators.

How recommendations work

We consider workload fit, operating responsibility, total cost and recovery requirements. A low invoice is not enough to establish suitability, and a high affiliate commission is not a selection criterion. If a product does not fit the use case, it should not be recommended for that use case.

Corrections and limitations

Provider specifications and terms can change. Check the linked source before purchasing. A source-check date is not a guarantee that every detail remains current. The early edition does not yet offer a public support channel; do not use the site as an incident-support service.

StackOutlay is an independent publication name. It does not imply that a corporation has been registered.

Funding

Provider links in this edition are direct links. We currently earn no commission from them. See the disclosure page for how paid links will be labeled.
