Tool 03 / Recovery

Can you restore
before it matters?

Estimate the transfer time for your data and connection. A backup is useful only when the recovery path fits your deadline.

01 / Your restore
Decimal TB · 0–100,000
Mbps; use the actual bottleneck · 0.1–1,000,000
Percent · 1–100
Hours · 0–100,000

Starting values are illustrative. Replace them with your own quotes and measurements.

From bytes to hours

Transfer hours = (TB × 10¹² × 8) ÷ (Mbps × 10⁶ × efficiency ÷ 100) ÷ 3,600
Total hours = transfer hours + setup and validation allowance

TB and Mbps use decimal units. Efficiency is an assumption, not a measured network statistic. Use the slowest sustained part of the path: provider delivery, WAN connection, decryption, decompression or disk writes. A small restore test is more informative than your advertised connection speed.
